FREE CREDIT REPORTS

Beginning Tuesday, March 1, 2005, Michigan citizens will be able to request
FREE credit reports online, by phone 877-322-8228, or by mail.

The 3 major credit report companies that are required under the new federal
legislation (FACTA) to provide free credit reports, TransUnion, Experian &
Equifax, have joined together to create a web site where citizens can apply
online or download the mail-in form:

http://www.annualcreditreport.com

This is a well-designed site with plenty of information to guide consumers
in obtaining credit reports.  The FAQ is particularly important on this site
because it explains the pros and cons of requesting a report from all 3
companies at once vs. spread out throughout the year.  It also discusses
some of the scams that consumers should be aware of.
