Running Safety
Anyone over the age of 35 should check with a family doctor before starting an
exercise program
Examine your running shoes for excessive wear - a poor shoe can contribute
greatly to injury
Always warm up before your run by stretching major muscle groups and starting

should be able to carry on a conversation while running. If you are out of
breath and unable to speak, you are probably running at too high a pace
Make
yourself visible - wear bright clothing or a safety vest with reflective tape
Dress appropriately in warm weather to allow for proper heat escape
Avoid running in highly polluted areas such as busy streets
Run
with a partner particularly if you are running in a secluded area
Run
different routes - don't be predicatable
Don't listen to a walkman while running - you may not be able to hear the
traffic or if someone is following you
Always carry a whistle or personal alarm to ward off would-be attackers
