Cycling Safety
Be
visible - wear bright clothes during the day, light clothing at night
Eye
to eye - establish eye contact with drivers, especially those making turns or
pulling into traffic
Follow
the rules - bicycles must follow the same regulations as cars
Be
wary - watch for potholes, cars backing out of driveways, vehicles turning
across your path, or car doors suddenly opening in front of you
Signal
- learn and use hand signals so other drivers know what you are doing
Keep
watch - practice "shoulder checking" out of traffic first before
glancing over the left shoulder to see what traffic is doing behind you
Wear
a helmet - 85% head injuries can be prevented by wearing a bicycle helmet
Right
bicycle - when purchasing a bike, make sure it is the right size for you
